Modern lifestyles and
metabolic syndrome
The problem
Modern western lifestyles, with an abundance of processed foods and inadequate physical exercise, contribute to a state called metabolic syndrome. It is the precursor to many chronic diseases including Type-2 diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease.
Metabolic syndrome is characterised by fat cell dysfunction. In essence, overloaded fat cells become biased to produce pro-inflammatory cytokines - small proteins which initiate inflammation.
The result is chronic inflammation, which contributes to many of today’s common long-term health conditions.

The solution
Diet alone is not the answer. But it may be the simplest place to start. One of the most promising areas of nutrition research examines the role of naturally occurring plant compounds called anthocyanins.
Anthocyanins are the pigments responsible for the deep purple, blue and red colours of many fruits and berries. Beyond their colour, they appear to influence multiple biological pathways involved in inflammation, oxidative stress and metabolic regulation.
There is growing evidence to suggest that a diet naturally rich in anthocyanins may help support healthy metabolic function when combined with an overall healthy lifestyle.

AnthoPhen's contribution
Among commonly consumed fruits, Aronia berries contain exceptionally high concentrations of anthocyanins. Berryactives grows Aronia in Central Otago, New Zealand, where unique climatic conditions further enhance the berry’s anthocyanin content.
AnthoPhen®, (the brand name for Berryactive’s freezedried Aronia) contains 100% Central Otago grown freezedried Aronia. Whether added to a smoothie, breakfast youghurt, or home made meal, it offers a practical way to include one of nature's richest sources of anthocyanins in a daily diet.
