that started in a pub...
Like many great stories, this one started in a pub. Sitting around the table that afternoon were a bunch of Central Otago locals. One of them realised that of all the people at the table only one, a local apple grower, was generating an export income for the country.
That prompted a decade-long investigation of berry crops, freeze drying methods, and health-related research. Two themes were always being explored: "what can Central Otago do better than most" and "what do people need".
In time, after trials, false starts, lost crops, and lost cash, Berryactives came to produce it's freeze dried Aronia. In 2025, the Anthophen® brand was trademarked. Anthophen® plays on "anthocyanin" and "polyphenol" and is the brand name of Berryactives' freeze dried Aronia.
Now, Anthophen® is being sold to health conscious individuals who see the benefits of a more nutraceutical form of health maintenance. The freezedried powder is presented in a 500 gram pouch.
The future will likely see Anthophen® being incorporated as an ingredient in functional foods and other nutraceutical products.
